New York (WLS) The U. S. Food and Drug Administration will soon approve Viagra (generic name Sildenafil) for a drug marketed as a pill for erectile dysfunction (ED). The drug is the first oral ED pill to treat a condition known as pulmonary hypertension.

The FDA announced a review of the drug's safety and efficacy in patients with heart disease and other heart conditions and a review of the possible side effects and risks of Viagra.

The FDA's review of the drug's safety and efficacy in patients with erectile dysfunction found the drug was well-tolerated, and it was associated with fewer side effects than other ED drugs. However, the drug's safety and efficacy in the patient population with mild ED may have been affected by the high cost of Viagra.
